Back in January I had many events lined up for February and the coming spring as I usually do but this year in particular I was getting more bookings than in previous years. Then the pandemic arrived and suddenly, in a flash, all my events and bookings were cancelled as venues closed their doors and all my workshops and classes were shuttered. I didn't plan for a worldwide plague like this, I mean, who knew? I've had one or two events and bookings canceled in the past but not 100% of them.
I had to think of new ways of not only maintaining an income but also to keep working at my craft to keep from becoming stale and rusty so I pivoted the business somewhat and although things are not up to full speed yet, and likely will be a long time before things are back to "normal", I've stayed in front of my audience. I've even been compelled to learn new skills and acquire new tools that help in this endeavor which will allow me to re-enter the workforce as things get better. One thing I've done is the virtual caricature by drawing commissions digitally from home. Also, I now have the capability of drawing digitally at live events. "No Touch" drawings if you will. I come to understand like never before the "if, then" perspective.

I love watching old black and white B horror flicks and it just seems to go hand in hand with cartooning. The acting style from the 40's and 50's were more dramatic and exaggerated which as a professional cartoonist suits me just fine, Lots of material to draw and the basis for most cartooning is exaggeration.
