I recently referred to the movie Napoleon Dynamite as a "comfort movie" so I thought I would see how well I could be at drawing him and modifying one of my favorite lines.

I can't always make everyone happy and at a Fielder Elementary festival recently I did these two brothers. As you can see one was happy about it but his brother was having nothing to do with it. I don't know if he didn't like the drawing or maybe he was just having a bad day.
It's going to be an interesting holiday season this year with the way the pandemic has changed everything but I certainly hope there will be opportunities to draw at holiday events. Ready or not here it comes and I'm always one to look forward the festivities no matter what form they take. One thing is certain; I will be creating art commemorating the season!
Continuing my practicing, one of last weeks coronacature assignments was was comedian Kevin James of King of Queens fame.
During this slowdown I must keep my skills honed and learn new ones to boot and with digital drawing I get both. I'm keeping my skills fresh and learning not only better ways to get to the final product but also new ways of doing it. The three drawings shown above are digital which is a relatively new skill in my repertoire.
My first gig since the covid-19 shutdown last February was this week in mid-town put on by the Westchase District farmer's market. Although It wasn't a very busy event it was good to be back at work. Since I've spent the last six months doing nothing but practicing I was pretty much pleased with the quality of my drawings, I had many compliments and even a homeless man, complete with his cardboard sign wandered over and liked what I was doing. It was hot as is typical for August in Houston and the only real challenge I had was drawing while dripping with sweat, particularly off the end of my nose. The only other stressful moment was when a patron wanted her Pomeranian to be included and I'm not adept at drawing dog caricatures but she was happy with it. It prompts me to practice drawing pets because there is quite a market for them, Here's to this event being a catalyst for the next six months to be busier than the previous.
